The Fall of Shane Mackade Mackade Brothers Nora Roberts 9780373240227 Books

I am not sure why i read the first book in this series. I had no idea what it was about. And I had no idea the last book was the beginning of it all. Of two young boys, one a Confederate and one a Union, who fought as they thought they should...close to the death. Where they went to die, keeping their spirits alive to find peace, are what the books about. Entering the lives of the four McCade brothers and their parent's land, where those who are the most sensitive are drawn to these historical events: hearing the voices, the weaping, the sound of the Civil War, and seeing the spirits come alive. This will not leave your mind. Ever.

The Fall of Shane Mackade Mackade Brothers Nora Roberts 9780373240227 Books Reviews

Altogether heartwarming. The characters weren’t quite as well developed as I usually see in a Nora Roberts novel but perhaps that’s because it’s one of a series. Bringing the past into the mix made the book interesting. Nora Roberts is a master at what she does. Her books are always worth reading.
Nora Roberts is one of the best authors out there. No matter what kind of story she writes about you are caught up from beginning to end. This book is no different. you feel like you are right there involved in the lives of those in her books. So well written and a must read.
Fourth and last of the MacKade books, and probably the most light hearted.

Roberts creates her usual likeable characters in a strong small town setting, with plenty of romance and humor, all lightly flavored with Civil War history and a couple of ghosts.

All the conflict in this one is emotionally driven; there are no external forces at work. That can drive me crazy, but the author does a good job at making it worth my while. This hero is the only one of the brothers not comfortable with the ghosts, which was interesting. I confess, I just don't get the whole grown-men fighting concept - and having fun doing so - and by this book, I was a little tired of it. But I liked the genius heroine, smart enough to work on herself.

I had a good time; I've missed Roberts. With my eyes, and 3.5 years of the 's adjustable font, I just can't handle print books any more. This means that I haven't been re-reading those I already own (like the MacKade books), and with the greed her publisher has been showing since Spring 2010, I haven't been buying the digital versions either. At $5 each, everybody wins.
I LOVE Shane & Rebecca! I’ve read this book too many times to count.
Rarely is a FARMER in the hero role and Nora nailed it. Not to mention, Rebecca is an awesome-yet traditionally uncharacteristic of your everyday romance heroines. Which makes her perfect! Her brain, her body-all that is Dr. Knight is so far from the norm when it comes to female leads that she should be celebrated.
Thank you, Nora for these books! And, PLEASE think of writing some more as beautifully simple as these reads. Of course there are dramatics in the relationships and the “ghostbusting” aspects but they aren’t overboard...that’s rare in many reads nowadays.
The Fall of Shane MacKade is part of a wonderful collection of stories, all linked by four brothers who share common characteristics and yet are quite different from each other. Each is, fundamentally a good, dependable, and inherently lovable and loving man. Yet each is also his own man, with a central strong core of compassion, pride, dependability, heritage, courage, yes, and machismo. Also linking the men is their family history of the Civil War battle fields and forests of 1862 Antietam and a great mansion, imbued with an ancient tragedy and ghosts! Four handsome, nurturing bachelors, each with an inherent streak of male testosterone-laden sexism (which all absolutely deny) meet four women, all of whom carry the scars, experiences, and lessons of their own pasts, and all of whom are determined to create a future for themselves as strong, independent, and fulfilled women, willing to share burdens and lives, but unwilling to be dominated in the process. There is, thus, a similarity among the MacKade novels, yet it is the genius of Nora Roberts which, I believe creates the subtle nuances which allow one to differentiate among the stories and their character while simultaneously connecting the dots that make this series a cohesive unit. You really need to read all four of them, and do please make sure that you read them in the order in which they were written. The cross-references and flashbacks will enhance your pleasure (instead of just confusing you) if you read them in this order The Return of Rafe MacKade,The Pride of Jared MacKade,The Heart of Devin MacKade,The Fall of Shane MacKade.
Rebecca and Shane are a highly unlikely couple and are both incredibly stubborn individuals. She’s a gifted only child from well-off parents who raised her from a distance. Sent to fancy boarding schools since the age of six, she achieved scholastic excellence wherever she studied and multiple doctorates also at a young age. Shane is a farm bred country boy raised in a loving family of four brothers. The other three (Shane is the youngest) are married with children and all live on the farm. Shane himself loves the land itself, the crops in the fields, the cows, the chickens and tends to it all lovingly. His brothers all pitch in when they have time, despite their own separate established careers. Rebecca herself comes to visit Regan, one of the brother’s wives, who is her best friend. Once there, Rebecca reveals that she has broken away from her lecture circuit to study paranormal events at the farm! She’s even brought a full mass of electronic equipment to document her experiences and research!
The land and farmhouse hold a lot of history that is romantic and enchanting. I fully enjoyed the read!
Brilliant, analytical Dr. Rebecca Knight meets warm and loving farmer Shane MacKade. Absolutely perfect for each other, if only they both admitted it. Thoroughly entertaining to see this relationship develop as well as learn all the connections the MacKade family members have to the Civil War ghosts of the past. As always with Ms Roberts, setting, characters, plot, action, dialogue and emotions flow seamlessly to provide the reader with a fully satisfying experience.
